Medication is one tool. You deserve a doctor who can help you use all of them.

Whether you want to lose weight without medication, are already taking one, or need help troubleshooting your weight loss efforts, you are welcome here. MD HealthStyle Weight Care is a focused medical practice with one physician: me. Every visit is with me, start to finish.

Weight is my only focus, and I have the time to spend with each patient to dig into the details. Together we make sure you are on the best plan for you, then spend most of our time building personalized lifestyle changes and putting them into practice. My goal is that you have a practical strategy for reaching your goals in the middle of a busy life: family, work, travel, and everything else. No fluff, and no spa treatments.

A prescription is easy to get these days. What is harder to find is a physician who is board-certified in obesity medicine, who keeps up with the newest research and medications as they arrive, and who has the time to apply all of it to you. That is what I offer.

Plateaued? Side effects? Ready to come off medication, or never start it?

I welcome all adults, with particular expertise in perimenopause and menopause. Stuck on a GLP-1? Done with a GLP-1? Never wanted a GLP-1? All are welcome here!

Dr. Sonali Hemachandra

I have walked that road, and I still do. Weight is something I still work at, like most people. I love cooking, eating, and experiencing everything the world has to offer, and I feed a family with very different needs every day. Half of success is making this work in the life and the household you actually have.

  • Losing and regaining. You are tired of the endless cycle of losing weight and regaining it, and you want this to be the time it stays off.
  • On medication, and stuck. You have plateaued, have side effects, or want to come off it and keep the weight off, and you want a physician working that through with you.
  • No medication, please. You want to lose weight without medication, with a doctor building the plan with you.
  • Food is the point. You want to reach and keep a healthy weight and still love cooking, eating, and traveling, and you have not been able to make all of that work together.
  • Your relationship with food. You want a healthy one, and you are ready to work on the beliefs and habits that are not serving you: guilt, shame, bingeing, or a lifelong membership in the clean plate club.
  • Care that had no room for this. Maybe it was an online company where you never spoke to the same person twice, or a primary care doctor who cares but has fifteen minutes and a long list, and weight keeps falling off the end of it. You want a doctor who has the time, and who has walked in your shoes.

What your care includes

  • One-on-one visits with me, in the office or by video.
  • Body-composition scans in the office, so we know you are losing fat while protecting and building the muscle you need.
  • Medication management, when medication is part of your plan. We make sure you are on the right medication and the right dose, drawing from the full range of weight-loss medications, not only GLP-1s. Finding the right fit sometimes takes trial and error, and dosing needs adjusting as you lose weight.
  • A healthier relationship with food and your body. We work through your thoughts and beliefs about food and weight, and build the habits and ways of thinking that support the relationship you want with both.
  • Message me directly between visits through the secure patient portal for any issue that comes up, and we can schedule additional visits if needed.
  • Personalized tools, handed to you. Meal plans, grocery and brand suggestions, guides to eating while traveling and at restaurants, and the strategies that fit your household, built for you rather than a course to work through on your own.

How it starts

1. A virtual meet and greet. You tell me where you are and what you are hoping for. I ask what has worked for you in the past and what has not, and together we figure out whether working together is the right fit.

2. Your first visit, 75 minutes. Medical history, body composition, your goals, and the plan we build together.

3. Ongoing care. Closer contact up front while we dial things in, then visits space out once you are on solid footing.

Membership

I provide care through a monthly membership. There are two levels of contact:

Close Care, where everyone starts. Visits every two weeks for three months, then monthly.

Steady Care, for when your plan is stable. One visit every three months.

Problem visits are included at both levels. You can move back to Close Care whenever you ask.

Close Care is $599 a month. Steady Care is $299 a month. There is a six-month initial term, and you can pay the first six months up front for $3,400.

Let me guess. You own at least one app you no longer open. You have a prescription somewhere that came with a dose and a shrug. Your doctor is lovely and has eleven other things to cover before your fifteen minutes are up. And you love food, real food, cooked in your own kitchen and eaten at tables with people you love, which every plan so far has treated as the problem.

Maybe you took a medication that helped until it stopped, or came with side effects nobody warned you about, or you want to come off it and are afraid of what happens next. Maybe you are in perimenopause or menopause and the things that always worked simply stopped working. And underneath all of it, the quiet feeling that you should have figured this out by now.

You should not have to. Weight is physiology, not a character test. What you needed was a doctor who had the skill and the time to write a personalized lifestyle prescription for you, and to keep adjusting it. So I built the practice I could not find.

Here is how we work. We meet, and I learn what has and has not worked for you. We build a plan together that fits your actual kitchen, your family's needs, and your calendar. You message me between visits when something comes up, and we adjust. When you reach your goal, we build a dedicated plan to maintain it. Keeping weight off is where most plans have failed you in the past, and it does not take a miracle. It takes a plan we keep tweaking as your life, your needs, and your body change.

Imagine approaching every holiday season with confidence. Imagine a January with no "get the weight off and get fit" push, where the only new thing each year is a new and better goal. End the cycle. Learn the tools you will carry for the rest of your life.

Membership is not health insurance. Full terms are in the member agreement you review before you join.

Questions people ask

About Dr. Hemachandra

Sonali Hemachandra, MD, is board-certified in obesity medicine and has practiced medicine for more than twenty years.

I opened this practice because of what I kept seeing: a generic prescription handed over with no real thought to whether it was the right medication or the right dose, no plan for adjusting it, little help with side effects, and almost nothing on the nutrition, exercise, and mindset work that does most of the heavy lifting. I wanted to be the resource for people who want tools for life: medication chosen and adjusted carefully, with close monitoring, done safely alongside your other doctors, and the lifestyle piece taught as the foundation. Many of my patients do not want or need medication at all. We drill into the lifestyle piece until they are moving through life confidently and comfortably, and toward their body-composition goals.

Let's start with the why. Why lose the weight? Health, how you look and feel in your body, longevity, staying active well into your later years. Almost everyone comes to me wanting to lose weight. The ones who get there usually tell me the goal changed along the way: they wanted to get healthy, take better care of themselves, and change their relationship with food for good. The scale moving was the expected, happy part of that. The people who come to me are not looking for a shortcut. They want to get there, stay there, and build the kind of life that makes staying there possible.

And for the record: I value the pleasure of food and want you to as well. I am currently perfecting a chocolate chip cookie recipe and will gladly discuss it. Reach a healthy weight and keep breaking bread with the people you love.

You don't need another app. You need a doctor you can reach directly when a question or a problem comes up.
